Live Today-Because You Are Dying

It’s not a sentence we like to say out loud.

You are dying.

Not in a dramatic, immediate sense—but in the quiet, steady way that time moves forward for all of us. Each day passes. Each moment is spent. None of it comes back.

And yet, instead of letting that truth weigh us down, what if we allowed it to wake us up?

Because the reality is this:

You are dying… which means you’ve been given today.

The Gift Hidden in the Truth

Psalm 90:12 says:
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

God never intended for us to ignore the brevity of life. He calls us to recognize it—not to create fear, but to create focus.

When you understand that your days are numbered, you begin to see them differently.

  • The argument you’re holding onto doesn’t feel as important
  • The dream you’ve been delaying starts to matter more
  • The people in your life become more precious
  • The time you’ve been wasting becomes more obvious

You stop assuming you have forever… and start valuing right now.

Stop Waiting for “Someday”

So many of us are living in a constant state of “later.”

  • I’ll slow down later.
  • I’ll spend more time with my family later.
  • I’ll pursue what God is calling me to do later.
  • I’ll forgive… later.

But “later” is not promised.

James 4:14 reminds us:
“You do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

That’s not meant to discourage you—it’s meant to remind you:

If it matters, it belongs in today.

Living Fully Doesn’t Mean Living Recklessly

“Live like you’re dying” isn’t about throwing caution aside or chasing temporary highs. It’s about living intentionally.

It’s about:

  • Choosing presence over distraction
  • Choosing forgiveness over pride
  • Choosing faith over fear
  • Choosing purpose over comfort

It’s about aligning your life with what actually lasts.

Because when your time here is finished, the question won’t be how busy you were—it will be how faithful you were. How faithful were you  to yourself, your family and friends, your work, and your Savior.

What Will You Do With Today?

If today was a gift—and it is—how will you use it?

  • Who needs to hear from you?
  • What have you been putting off that God is nudging you toward?
  • Where do you need to let go, step forward, or trust deeper?

You don’t need a new year, a new month, or even a new week to begin again.

You just need today.

A Final Thought

You are dying.

But more importantly…

You are living—right now.

And that means there is still time to love better, serve deeper, forgive freely, and walk boldly in the purpose God has placed in your life.

So don’t wait.

Don’t delay.

Don’t assume.

Live today… because it matters.
